About Us:
We are a Dubai-based technology company that designs and builds mobile applications across several categories — business applications, news applications and social media applications — for users across the GCC. We work with an automation-first, security-first, quality-first mindset and are growing a senior mobile team.
About the Role:
We are looking for one engineer who can own the real-time side of our products on both iOS and Android: instant messaging and chat, live feeds and breaking-news updates, presence, notifications and in-app communication that must feel instant and never lose data. You can work natively on both platforms, or with a cross-platform stack backed by strong native skills. You will set the mobile real-time architecture, build the core once and make it feel native on each platform.
Responsibilities:
- Own the mobile architecture for iOS and Android, including the shared real-time core used across our business, news and social apps.
- Build the connection layer (WebSocket / XMPP): reconnect, message ordering, delivery and read receipts, presence, typing and live feed updates.
- Deliver offline-first storage and sync on both platforms.
- Implement notifications and calls: APNs / PushKit / CallKit on iOS; FCM / WorkManager / ConnectionService on Android.
- Write native platform code where cross-platform falls short (background tasks, notification extensions, audio / video).
- Drive performance, stability and security (E2EE support, secure storage) to production-scale standards.
- Ship to both stores, run CI/CD, mentor developers and review code.
Requirements:
- 6+ years of mobile development, with production apps shipped on both the App Store and Google Play.
- Proven depth in native iOS (Swift) and native Android (Kotlin); or senior Flutter / React Native / Kotlin Multiplatform with hands-on native modules on both platforms.
- Hands-on experience building real-time features: an instant messaging / chat app is strongly preferred; live feeds, social or live-update apps also considered.
- Working knowledge of XMPP or an equivalent real-time protocol (WebSocket, MQTT).
- Strong background in offline-first data, push notifications and background execution on both platforms.
Nice to Have:
- Understanding of Erlang-based messaging servers (ejabberd / MongooseIM) — no Erlang coding required.
- End-to-end encryption (Signal protocol), WebRTC calls.
- Experience with news or social media apps; Arabic / RTL UI; Flutter.
